Asplenium Australasicum
Known as the birds nest fern, it sends out large fronds from a central point, making a lovely nest shaped plant. Once established, they can grow quite large, making a dramatic statement for a shaded or semi shaded position. They can grow in trees, on rocks, or can grow in a well drained but moist soil. Shade to half shade position, as full sun will burn the fronds. 1.5m high x 1.5m wide.
Beaucarnea Recurvata Ponytail
Low maintenance robust ornamental plant with long slender green leaves which emerge in a fountain tuft from a single or branched trunk. The trunk often has a bulging base when mature, hence the alternative common name of elephant foot palm. Plant in full sun, or the brightest light possible indoors, in well drained soil. Very happy in dry almost desert locations but will grow very happily in humid gardens if soil is sandy and free-draining. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Hardy plant, tolerates heat and dry conditions once established. Prefers dry conditions during winter. Grows to 10m high and 3m wide outside, much smaller indoors in containers.
Blueberry Powder Blue
The fruit from this variety has a powdery blush and is medium in size. It is one of the toughest blueberry varieties and fruits between October and December. It is a good selection for northern NSW and Qld as they don’t need many chill hours for the fruit to set. Plants grow between 1-2m tall and require 2 compatible plants for pollination to occur. Blueberries are partly deciduous but quite bushy through summer and may be used as a hedge. They are frost tolerant. They may be grown in pots. Great as a two storey screening plant in suburban gardens. It will grow well in part shade to full sun, grows in most soil types kept well drained and flowers in summer and autumn.
Strelitzia Reginae
Strelitzia Reginae is a beautiful plant which grows to about 1.5m high and clumps to about 1m round. It is very hardy and can tolerate most soil types and weather conditions. It requires very little maintenance. Grows best with a good application of slow release fertilizer and the occasional watering. It produces an orange flower during most of the year which resembles a parrot, hence the common name, Bird of Paradise.
Stromanthe Tricolour
Brighten up dull corners of your garden with this dramatically coloured Stromanthe. Dark green leaves with white variegations and pink undersides of the leaves. A great landscaping plant or indoor pot plant. Plant in part shade/shade position. Keep moist in well drained soil. .50-1m high x up to 1m wide.
Syzygium Australe Hinterland Gold
Syzygium australe Hinterland Gold is one of the many Lilly Pilly cultivars which is available. They grow well in full sun, will produce small cream flowers through spring and grow to about 4m. They are quite hardy and do love a good prune.
Syzygium Australe Resilience
A fast growing and compact lily pilly reddish-bronze new foliage. Can be used for hedging, screening, windbreak, feature plant and topiary. Will grow to 5m tall and 3m wide, but responds well to pruning. Psyllid resistant. In spring it produces white flowers followed by fruit. Grows well in most types of soil with good drainage and in most climate conditions, even tolerating light frost. It is an evergreen variety with dense foliage which requires little maintenance.
Syzygium Cascade
The cascade is a rounded, bushy, large shrub with weeping foliage in brilliant shades of red, pink and apple-green. During Summer, gold-tipped, pink, pom-pom clustered flowers form at the ends of the drooping branches. The flowers are followed by edible pink fruit with a delicate clove flavour. Plant in an open sunny position or part shade. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. 2-3m high x 2m wide.
Viburnum Odoratissimum Emerald Lustre
Viburnum Odoratissimum Emerald Lustre is a fast growing thick screen.
It has leathery, oval, mid-green leaves that emerge in a pretty bronze colour.
In summer, sweet smelling delicate flowers appear, followed by small berries in autumn. They grow from 1.2 – 3m in height and 0.5 – 2m width. They are fairly drought and frost resistant.
Vriesea Raphael
It has beautiful variegation usually with dark purple leaf tips. Vrieseas are very adaptable to a wide range of light. They will thrive in shaded areas as well as areas with bright indirect sunlight. Vriesea's are more tolerant of dense shade than other common bromeliads. Best if water maintained in central 'tank'. 45-50 cm high x 25cm in diameter.
Yucca Elephantipes
Yucca may be grown indoors or outdoors from full sun to full shade. It tolerates light frosts, drought and hot conditions. It will grow in most soil types as long as they have good drainage. May grow up to 5m in height. Mature plants may produce a flower spike up to 1m in height which produces a beautiful display of white flowers in summer.
Yucca Elephantipes Silver Star
Tall, dramatic foliage plant that develops trunks as it matures. Long sword-shaped soft-tip leaves grow around the trunks, green with a wide central stripe of white. Tropical garden settings and poolside for screening and feature planting. Suited to containers and indoor gardens in cooler climates. Plant in a bright position in the garden in well drained soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. 2-3m high and 1m wide.

Thick glossy leaves and compact growth makes this a great indoor pot plant or under-story filler in the garden. Prefers heavy to medium shade and in dry well drained soil and is low-maintenance. 60-80cm high x 80cm wide.
